Summary of Global Competitive and Market Intelligence job family:
The Competitive and Market Intelligence (CMI) team is responsible for analyzing market trends, understanding key competitors in each market, and assessing the impact to SAP’s overall strategic direction and execution. CMI is part of the Corporate Strategy Group and CMI insights and recommendations are a direct input to strategic planning at the SAP executive level and across the organization as well as at a field execution level to assist in closing business.
The Financial Services Industry (FSI) Analyst ensures that SAP is aware of and reacting to strategic and tactical actions taken by select key SAP competitors. He/She will closely track market trends in the Banking and Insurance industries as well as adjacent markets, track and analyze related mergers & acquisitions, develop an in-depth knowledge of competitor solutions / products, report and analyze quarterly and annual earnings, assist the field in how to position SAP to win in competitive deals, educate and advise senior stakeholders, create and present key competitor related content, attend conferences both domestically and internationally as required, and be the internal SAP expert for select key competitors. Additionally, he/she will work with other CMI analysts on industry and Line Of Business related content.
The FSI Analyst can be virtually based with preference in North America. He/She will build quantitative and qualitative deliverables for different audiences. Core tasks include:
Key Initiatives - Define the priorities of SAP internal stakeholders and prioritize the technology assets for CMI asset repository. Drive data-based global initiatives - assemble, assess, and analyze information and author competitive assets that will establish SAP as a thought leader across the markets in which we operate. Support ad-hoc research requests from SAP leadership group.
Stakeholder Alignment - Establish a close working relationship and regular cadence / collaboration with senior stakeholders in Solutions/Products, Sales, COEs, Marketing, Services and work with them as valued partners while coordinating with CMI colleagues to eliminate overlap and maximize coverage. Must be comfortable communicating with IT developers, architects, and managers as well as with business managers and executives
Competitive Domain Expertise – Ensure both global and regional coverage and understanding of the FSI market and the competitive landscape including vendor share, customer demographics, solution strengths and weaknesses, win/loss, go-to-market strategies, M&A activities, etc. for both established and emerging competitors. Liaise with external industry and subjects matter experts to facilitate gathering of “offline” intelligence as well as facilitating the collection, integration and dissemination of field intelligence as appropriate
Market Intelligence Domain Expertise – Possess global and regional expertise (quantitative and qualitative) on macroeconomic insights, market segmentation and sizing, regional differentiations, and 3rd party research for Banking / Insurance. Help develop and monitor an “early warning protocol” for measuring, tracking and reporting on environmental events and developments that could impact the business
Communications – Develop and present perspectives on the key trends impacting the FSI market (for e.g. Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) ) and relevant competitive and market research internally to the management team, general SAP community, and ecosystem.
Collaboration – Collaborate with other members of Competitive and Market Intelligence team, the Corporate Strategy Group and work as one team.
Work closely with stakeholders to synthesize their FSI cloud strategy requirements and provide insights that complement product execution and roadmap plans.
Identify current and future customer needs by analyzing macro and strategic trends and aligning them with SAP’s current objectives or recommending how SAP should respond to these trends
Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with key decision makers internally and in partner and customer organizations
Is the operational link between the company's overall strategy and achieving business results
Realization of multiple high impact initiatives towards broad corporate goals
Country and regional Directors require a strong industry knowledge in area of responsibility, thorough understanding of markets and sales opportunities for SAP solutions
Represents SAP externally and within partner community
Ability to interview executives at all levels of the organization and ability to perform detail business analysis e.g. market analysis, Presentation skills, Relationship management capabilities
Ensures understanding, trust and open cooperation on management level and below through effective and appropriate communication
Optimizes communication style according to different stakeholders, situation and media
Formulates clear management objectives and strategies and ensures understanding
Experience & Language Requirements
8 years of business work experience ideally in enterprise software, strategy, business development, finance, or consulting. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Computer Science required. MBA, JD or advanced degree in related discipline preferred
