This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Manage train and engine crews to ensure safe and efficient operation of locomotives and trains along the Southwest Chief route, in Albuquerque, NM (ABQ). Provide leadership, monitoring and guidance to locomotive engineers; oversee train operations in compliance with rules and regulations of operating carriers, federal regulatory agencies, and Amtrak labor agreements. Monitor employee performance for compliance with policies and procedures and take consistent corrective action for non-conforming behavior. Manage and oversee locomotive engineer certification requirements and re-certification program, conduct operational efficiency tests, and manage train and engine budget. Manage train operations and recommend improvements for best possible on time performance (OTP). Promptly respond to service disruptions providing service recovery and written and verbal reports.
Must be Certified Class I FRA Train Service Engineer, minimum of two years operating experience, with no violations as described in Title 49 CFR Part 240.117 as train service engineer and/or as road foreman. Must be qualified on physical characteristics of territory.
Satisfy qualification requirements as DSLE. Demonstrate knowledge of CFR 49 requirements and BLE labor contracts. Demonstrate knowledge of Amtrak policies and procedures, CFR requirements, General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), and BNSF and UPRR special instructions. Must have basic computer skills. Must have prior satisfactory job performance.
Bachelors Degree in Business, Operations, Transportation or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Strong leadership, organization, planning, and communication skills as demonstrated through previous assignments. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
