The Medical Director will be a physician who is responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team. This person will collaborate and provide leadership to the HBPC program Director and program assuming primary clinical responsibility for all the patients in the HBPC program. The Medical Director is responsible for working with the PA/NP in identifying the patient's medical problems, defining the medical management of these problems, determining the need for consultation from medical/surgical/psychiatric subspecialty clinics and determining the need for admission to the hospital. The Medical Director will attend HBPC interdisciplinary team meetings and be available to the team members for collaboration when medical or other problems arise. The Medical Director will make home visits or visits to remote rural areas for HBPC patients as appropriate.

The Medical Director of Home Based Primary Care is fully qualified to practice as a physician and to provide inpatient and outpatient medical care to the Veteran patients within the Amarillo VA Health Care System.

*Duty Hours: *8:00am and 4:30pm.

a. CITIZENSHIP: Citizenship of the United States.

b. EDUCATION: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges or the year in which the degree was granted; (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted; (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the district of Columbia.

c. LICENSURE AND REGISTRATION: The physician/resident must maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

d. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

e. First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

PREFER: *Board certified or Board eligible in Geriatrics is preferred as well as education/experience in Geriatric and Extended care environments. *Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (1 hour), standing (1 hour), near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, hearing (aid permitted), emotional/mental stability, working inside and outside, working closely with others, working alone, working with hands in water, protracted or irregular hours of work, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
