VA Amarillo Healthcare System is seeking highly motivated Orthopedic Physician to provide comprehensive medical care to the Amarillo VA in Amarillo, Texas an assigned panel of adult patients in an outpatient setting.

The staff orthopedist is required to deliver surgical procedures in the operating room, and clinical services in the Orthopedic Section within Surgical Service. Responsibilities include performing surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures and clinic duties, and outpatient and inpatient surgery consultations for new and established patients. Participate in ward/ICU rounds and any other relevant activities as necessary for initial and follow-up patient care. The orthopedist is expected to follow each patient through the full continuum of care process to include admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals when pre-surgical evaluation is not available, requesting and writing orders for diagnostic tests and procedures for pre-op, prior to surgery, and completing informed consents as required. The orthopedist is also responsible for educating patients and family members. Full-time orthopedists will participate in the rotation of on-call duties per on-call schedule; night, weekend and holiday call may be required. The orthopedist will adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, and all other required medical documentation. The orthopedist will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards. Additionally, the orthopedist will train and provide supervision for mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:a. Citizenship. Citizenship of the United States. b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. c. Licensure and Registration. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in ANY State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. d. First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

Applicants for renewal of clinical privileges must demonstrate competence and volume of experience of 200 evaluations, assessments or interventions with acceptable results in the privileges requested for the past 24 months based on results of quality assessment/improvement activities and outcomes. Evidence of current ability to perform privileges requested is required of all applicants for renewal of privileges.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
