The main hospital campus located in Ann Arbor serves as a referral center for specialty care and operates 105 acute care beds and 40 Community Living Center (extended care) beds. More than 800,000 outpatient visits were made at our facilities in fiscal year 2015; there were nearly 6,000 inpatient episodes of care provided in the hospital and extended care center.

In addition to our main facility in Ann Arbor, we offer services in three community-based outpatient clinics. These clinics are located in Flint and Jackson Michigan and Toledo Ohio.

The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System seeks a full-time Sleep Medicine physician for its rapidly growing Sleep Disorders Center. The AAVA Sleep Disorders Center, providing care for the full spectrum of sleep disorders, is comprised of general and subspecialty sleep disorders clinics, inpatient consultative services, in-lab and home-based sleep testing, tele-sleep services to its Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and onsite DME. The Center also co-sponsors an ACGME-accredited Sleep Medicine Fellowship program with the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will have clinical and educational opportunities within the multidisciplinary AAVA Sleep Disorders Center, as appropriate based on qualifications and experience, and a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan.

Preferred Certifications:

  • B.C./B.E. in Sleep Medicine

  • Fellowship training in Sleep Medicine from an ACGME-accredited Sleep Fellowship program.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
