Assurant Director, Internal Communication in Atlanta, Georgia
The Internal Communication Director is responsible for writing and coordinating comprehensive and fully-aligned communication plans for the Global Home and Global Specialty Business Units, as well as the Chief Operating Officer communications. This individual will establish full alignment with the VP of External Communication, the Sr. Director, External Communication on the two GBU’s, as well as their clients, including the COO, the GBU presidents and the line-of-business leaders, as well as the HR Business Partners for each area. Repurposing content for use internally, all of which will also ladder up to and be aligned with the company’s overall strategy. In doing this, the Internal Communication Director ensures that all internal communication is integrated with and aligned to the organization’s reputation goals.
This individual is an integral member of the Communication team and will work together with our External Communication and Marketing team members in developing content – written, graphics, video and digital that will be used for internal global and/or team town halls. This individual will also help to feed content into each of the Global Business Unit and Functional Sharepoint sites. Developing full, internal communication frameworks that drive regular publishing of content on the company’s intranet, Connect, including Voices & Views will be a key part of the role as well. Message and presentation training and development will also be the responsibility of this Director’s role, for their respective GBU Presidents and COO leaders.
Specific Responsibilities Include: *
Working with the external Communication team to discern and shape “internal” thought leadership platforms that will drive a definitive POV for those businesses and the operating model of the Assurant organization.
Ensure all communication conforms to most up-to-date Assurant Style Guide and strict adherence to AP Style\ Maintain consistency in tone, style and basic formatting of all communication.
Create and manage an internal editorial calendar for Connect, Voices & Views and Yammer, specifically, and posting schedule.
Assist in developing strategic communication plans in collaboration with other team members
Provide special writing or presentation support, related to content creation/curation when requested, for senior executives and/or special company events, internal town halls, etc.
Develop quarterly measurement reports on effectiveness of communication through tracking of article reads and other measures.
Coordinate strategies between content/communication/marketing/brand/design and other teams to develop fully-integrated campaigns.
Basic Qualifications: *
Bachelor’s degree required – prefer focus in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or English
8 years of corporate communication experience, preferably with a focus on content curation/creation
Other Skills: *
Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills; including the ability to write well, quickly
Must be able to make the most complex topics understandable and accessible to various external audiences to engage interest and support broader understanding of strategy
Ability to manage junior internal communication team members
Strong writing, verbal and visual acuity skills
Strong attention to detail, particularly AP Style and grammar
Preferred Qualifications: *
Work experience in financial services and/or insurance sector a plus; adept at understanding technical and/or complex information and writing in clear, easy to understand messages that engages the reader is key
Direct experience with internal communications
Executive presence to interact and direct leaders within the organization
Portfolio of Work *
