University Health Care System Home Health Billing Specialist in Augusta, Georgia

Responsibilities

Upon referral, responsible for verification of insurance, calculating the amount owed by a patient and communicating results to the designated Home Health agency. Responsible for AR accuracy through services/charge corrections; governmental billing compliance; communication to agencies regarding billing issues. Also ensures that University Home Health is paid timely and correctly by all payers for the services rendered. Communicates and coordinates with a broad variety of individuals to include patients, team members, all levels of University Home Health and payer representatives. Must keep abreast of scheduled workload at all times and be able to set priorities. Accountability is measured through performance appraisals, quality of work, productivity and direct observation.

Qualifications

EducationHigh School Diploma/GED required. One to two years related college/technical/business school preferred. Basic Medical Terminology and basic ICD/CPT coding certification/coursework required or must obtain within 12 months of assuming position. Will accept demonstrated proficiency as gained through prior work experience in lieu of certification/formal coursework.ExperienceTwo years closely related work experience with insurance such as in a Patient Finance Services, Access, Revenue Management, Physicians Office, Home Health Business Office or related setting are required.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. Must pay attention to detail.Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under stress.Strong analytical ability, problem-solving and critical thinking skills are required. Basic math skills must include proficiency at multiplication, division, calculation of percentages and averages, and mental estimation. Must be able to read/view electronic and hard copy documents, create electronic and hardcopy documentation in existing systems, and make/receive frequent phone calls.
