The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Functional Statement Title/#:Physician (Chief, Nephrology)

Location of position: Downtown, Specialty Care Service Line

  • Provide administrative oversight of the Nephrology section to include outpatient clinics, coordination of outpatient nephrology consultations and patient referrals, the nephrology consult service, and the acute dialysis unit.

  • Serves as Nephrology Subject Matter Expert on assigned MAOs, paperless opinions, congressional complaints, etc.

  • Have the ability to undertake a process improvement projects to determine if it is cost effective for the organization with present resources to establish a Peritoneal Dialysis Program.

  • Work with the ICU and acute dialysis staff to assist in developing and maintaining a Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy program.

  • Attend monthly Specialty Care Service All Staff meeting and Medicine Committee meeting.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, Physician Qualification Standards Citizenship: U.S Citizenship is required (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
