The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Functional Statement Title: Physician/Hospitalist Location of position: Downtown, Specialty Care Service Line
Your primary duties include the full spectrum of admitting and managing inpatients with general adult medical illnesses. You will be consulting with Primary Care physicians and other specialists ensuring that patients receive appropriate continuous care. Some of the other duties of this outstanding physician career opportunity include:
- Performing histories and physical examinations; rounding on patients and writing progress notes; discharge planning and timely completion of discharge summaries
- Provide inpatient medicine consultations to other services, including but not limited to, Mental Health and Surgery.
- Communicate with incoming and off going Hospitalists to ensure continuity of care.
- Respond to code blue & Rapid Response Team calls throughout the facility while on duty, and is a lead disaster team coordinator for triage during disaster or mass casualty situations.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G2, Physician Qualification Standards http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm Citizenship: U.S Citizenship is required (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light lifting (under 15 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), pushing 4 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 2 hours, standing 8 hours, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
