The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Work Schedule: Monday thru Sunday, with rotating shifts Day/Evening (Day Shift: 7:30a-4:00p, Evening Shift: 3:30p-Midnight)
Location of position: Uptown Division, Nursing Services, Community Living Center (various units)
The Registered Nurse (RN) is assigned to a designated unit and is accountable to the Nurse Manger for the area. He/she is responsible for the delivery of fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. The RN must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within the work group setting. This clinical knowledge enables the RN to effectively implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illness, assist patients achieve optimal levels of functioning, and provide supportive measures for patients and their families/significant others. The RN must complete mandatory and annual competencies for equipment and procedures, adhere to unit-based protocols, maintain a current BLS (ACLS, if required for area), and work collaboratively with other disciplines in the medical center. The RN will participate in in-services and performance improvement activities and customer services programs at unit and service line levels.
Brief Description of Position: Completes Resident Instrument Assessments (RAI) Completes Residents Assessments Verify orders and chart reviews Medication administration Discharges and admissions Charge Nurse of 30 bed Community Living Center (CLC) Supervises LPNs and NAs (GS-Staff) Reports to Nurse Manager and peers care needs/resident concerns Follows Long Term Care Standards of care for the provision of care for the CLC Veteran Population Assists the Nurse Manager in obtaining coverage for staffing Knowledgeable of CMS Guidelines and the Artifacts of Culture Transformation

Candidates must meet all the requirements identified in the VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6, Nurse Qualification Standards http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm
(1) U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. (2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) (3) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. (4) Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement may be required. (5) RN's appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience. Applicant's successful nursing practice and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.
Preferred Education: BSN preferred

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
