Department Description: St. David's Medical Center has a 65 bed level III NICU, the largest level III NICU in Central Texas. In addition to conventional ventilation, we have oscillator, high frequency and nitric oxide capabilities. We care for all infants requiring intensive care including extremely premature infants and all surgical cases (except major open-heart surgery). We use a body cooling system that induces hypothermia to reduce brain damage. We have the only cerebral function monitoring system in the city . We have an active developmental team including SLPs, OTs, PTs, and staff dietitians. The NICU also includes a satellite pharmacy with specialized pharmacists and techs. Our transport team is available 24/7 for any hospital requesting a transfer to our unit. The all RN staff are NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certified and many are NCC (National Certification Credentialing) certified in their area of specialty. There is a Neonatologist in house 24/7.
Position Description: Under the general supervision of the Transport Team Medical Director and Director of Nursing for Women’s Services and according to hospital policies and procedures, the Transport Nurse participates as a member of the Maternal Transport Team in the identification, assessment, stabilization and transport of the high risk mother.
Knowledge & Skills: Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with public, physicians, staff, patients, administration and ancillary/support department representatives. Maintains confidentiality of patient’s medical records. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED/PREFERRED):
EDUCATION: Required: Graduation from an NLN accredited school of Professional nursing Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree
EXPERIENCE. Experience Preferred: Experience as a Staff Nurse in an acute care setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. • Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with public, physicians, staff patients, administration and ancillary/ support department representatives. Written and verbal communication skills adequate for performance of the position. Maintains confidentiality of patients’ medical records. Regular and predictable attendance is required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas Current certification as a BLS course C or D provider NRP certification within 6 months of hire
Preferred: STABLE certification within 6 months of hire Certification in area of specialty
