Responsibilities:

DUTIES: This is a trade’s supervisory position, at the UNION III compound in Baghdad, Iraq. The Carpenter Lead will take ownership of all UNION III painting, office and residential relocation and minor furniture repair services. This position reports to the Carpentry Supervisor and O&M Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive. - Performs carpentry services such as: - Carpet installation and replacement - Tile and linoleum replacement - Windows, window frames, and screens - Stair repairs including treading stairs - Make and install signs - Coat rack and similar fixture installation - Drywall, steel studs, ceiling tracks and ceiling tile layout and installation - Performs painting services as required for: - Maintenance areas - Piping and equipment - Office and residential areas - Performs minor furniture repair services, including repair services that can be resolved on site within an eight hour timeframe. - Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections. - Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and electrical codes. - Must be able to evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms. - Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - - The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years general carpentry experience in operations and maintenance services, with a minimum of two years’ operations and maintenance (O&M) experience in an overseas setting. - Training and experience with rough carpentry finish carpentry, cabinet making, furniture repair and furniture construction is highly desired. - The Carpenter Lead should have a demonstrated knowledge of: - Roofing - shingle and sheet-metal - Concrete form construction including mixing and finishing. - Carpeting including laying tile carpet and runner carpeting - Painting including knowledge of different kinds of paint and application methods - Flooring types and installation - Operation of all normal fixed and portable carpentry shop tools - Knowledge of applicable U.S. Codes and accepted trade practices. - Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the carpentry, painting and furniture repair trades and related safety precautions. - Must have good organizational and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently. REQUIRED: - Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Carpentry Certificate or an AA/AS trade’s degree from a two year college and/or equivalent field experience is strongly preferred. - Already possess a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) clearance or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract. - Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills. - Citizenship: US Citizenship is not required. - Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination. DESIRED: - Previous OCONUS experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus. - Experience working with PAE. - Experience working with SOW, sub-contractors, budgets, estimating, working drawings and as-builts. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in operating and supporting carpentry, painting and minor furniture repair functions at an overseas facility. - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. - Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel. - Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team. - Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change. - Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
