PAE, Inc Carpentry Supervisor in Baghdad, Iraq

This is a trade’s supervisory position, at the Baghdad Diplomatic Service Center in Baghdad, Iraq. The Carpentry Supervisor will take ownership of all BDSC painting, office and residential relocation and minor furniture repair services. This position reports to the BDSC O&M Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive. The Carpentry Supervisor provides daily work assignments and supervises a multi-national workforce of Locksmith’s and Carpenter’s.
Performs carpentry services such as:
Carpet installation and replacement
Tile and linoleum replacement
Windows, window frames, and screens
Stair repairs including treading stairs
Make and install signs
Coat rack and similar fixture installation
Drywall, steel studs, ceiling tracks and ceiling tile layout and installation
Performs painting services as required for:
Piping and equipment
Office and residential areas
Installation of Steelcase office furniture
Performs minor furniture repair services, including repair services that can be resolved on site within an eight hour timeframe. These may include:
Doors and door bolts
Manages, coordinates and implements relocation of staff for both office and residential areas. This includes coordination of the delivery and installation of office and residential furniture from the warehouse
Reports any problems or lack of compliance with Statement of Work (SOW) to the Assistant Operations Manager-O&M.
Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections.
Assists in developing the Statement of Work (SOW) when requested
Maintains effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, managers, and supports other organizations.
Performs other administrative tasks including material ordering, inventory, work scheduling
Collects, analyzes and summarizes data for report preparation and submits written reports.
Responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts.
Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and electrical codes.
Must be able to evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight years general carpentry experience in operations and maintenance services, with a minimum of three years’ operations and maintenance (O&M) experience in an overseas setting.
Training and experience with rough carpentry finish carpentry, cabinet making, furniture repair and furniture construction is highly desired.
The Carpentry Supervisor should have a demonstrated knowledge of:
Roofing - shingle and sheet-metal
Concrete form construction including mixing and finishing.
Carpeting including laying tile carpet and runner carpeting
Painting including knowledge of different kinds of paint and application methods
Flooring types and installation
Operation of all normal fixed and portable carpentry shop tools
Knowledge of applicable U.S. Codes and accepted trade practices.
Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the carpentry, painting and furniture repair trades and related safety precautions.
Must have good organizational and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Citizenship: US Citizenship is required.
Security Requirements: Must possess or be able to obtain a verifiable Secret or Top Secret Security clearance and maintain eligibility at the required clearance level for the duration of the contract.
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Carpentry Certificate or an AA/AS trade’s degree from a two year college and/or equivalent field experience is strongly preferred.
Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills.
Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.
Previous OCONUS experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
Experience working with PAE.
Experience working with SOW, sub-contractors, budgets, estimating, working drawings and as-builts.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in operating and supporting carpentry, painting and minor furniture repair functions at an overseas facility.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Advanced computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.
Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
