Because this is a Fee Basis position, selectees will not be entitled to those benefits normally afforded to Permanent Federal employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs (i.e. leave, retirement, etc.)


The Emergency Medicine physician is responsible for the initial evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of unscheduled patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Applicants must be board certified (or board eligible) in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Family Practice. Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric. Annual Volume 25,000. Double coverage at minimum with varying acuity levels including critically ill patients. The physician must be familiar with emergency medicine procedures and airway management. Coverage includes 10 hour shifts on days, and 10 to 14 hour shifts on nights, including weekends and holidays, 24/7. There is also a 9 hour fast track shift available on weekends and government holidays.

Basic Requirements*: *

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
