This position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS), of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, Bay Pines , FL. As a Housekeeping Aid, your duties will include, but not be limited to:
Reports directly to an assigned Supervisor or Manager, of a designated area(s). Require to work on weekends and off-tour shift depending upon the needs of the facility.
Responsible for the specialized cleaning techniques in critical areas to include but not be limited to operating rooms, recovery rooms, and medical and surgical intensive care units, life support observation and treatment rooms, the Ambulatory Care Clinics, MRI, Dialysis suites , and the sterile areas such as Sterile Processing Service (SPS).
Select and uses special cleaning agents and germicidal solutions to remove stains from a variety of surfaces and to provide a safe Medical Center environment. Operating power cleaning equipment such as; automatic scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet cleaning machines, Industrial vacuums, etc.
Empting trash and waste baskets, replacing liners. Transport general refuse, regulated medical waste and recycling to a central collection area following established procedures for waste management. Collecting, transporting, and properly disposing of various types of general and medical waste materiel including "Sharps" container
Performing daily cleaning tasks, such as, dust mopping, damp mopping, cleaning patient exam areas, patient rooms, and restrooms to include urinals, commodes, sinks, floors etc., refilling dispensers and cleaning offices of all types
Performing specific cleaning task in accordance with established policies and procedures. Periodic tasks as per a predetermined schedule. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, changing curtains, cleaning windows and blinds and cleaning equipment such as wheelchair, beds, gurneys etc.
Performing operator maintenance and ensuring security of equipment placed in their care. This task may include; cleaning of equipment, replacement of filters, brushes and recharging of batteries, etc.
Responsible for having a familiarity of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Responsible for sweeping or using back pack blowers on Parking lots. Courtyards, building entrances, may work alone of with others housekeepers. Cleaning tasks outside the normal scope of work such as trash removal from the outside entry ways and cleaning sidewalks.
May be trained in safe operations of pressure washer to assist in pressure cleaning of various outside areas. The selectee candidate will also perform other duties related to work of the position as necessary or assigned.

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter-tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a Custodian or Housekeeping Aid without more than normal supervision.

The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
