Key Areas of Responsibility and Tasks

GCO Operations focuses on the successful creation, deployment, and execution of sales supporting processes, tools, and services, across all GCO areas (incl. License, Services, and Education Sales) and in close alignment with related lines of business (incl. HR and Finance).

As a leader of a Center of Expertise (CoE), you are a core driver of simplification by defining and deploying standards. In contributing expertise and knowhow, your teams create efficient processes, repeatable practices, and supporting assets towards smoother end-to-end execution in the field. Your role is to enable your team to achieve greater operational excellence. You will achieve this by focusing on:

  • Understand the dimensions of the business: Evaluate business requirements and Go-to-Market strategy in order to define the appropriate delivery models, process prioritization, and organizational set-up that enable greatest efficiency. Consider priorities and business pain points, as well as handshakes or touch points to other processes (CoEs) to encourage a collaborative approach.

  • Define process excellence: Define a vision and strategic path towards best-in-class process standards. Inspire your team to work against these values and objectives, fostering an open and innovative work environment that accelerates against a clear definition for success.

  • Scale for successful execution: Prioritize resources and execution timelines in line with business priorities. Encourage close engagement with the entire operations network with a priority focus on the Business Partners as execution arm for process deployment. Challenge the status quo and consider new delivery channels, automation, and execution paths.

  • Foster innovation: Open doors for thought leader exchange, outside-in perspective, and creativity. With a high focus on process excellence, empower your team to think out-of-the-box to anticipate process evolution required to support business transformations (i.e. Cloud, acquisitions,…)

  • Embrace and foster a one team mentality: Break down silos and proactively identify joint solutions to address business requirements. Demonstrate pride for operational excellence by communicating in a positive manner, fostering learning exchange, and sharing successes.

  • Execute & Coach: Establish accountability for effective end-to-end execution including the collaboration with Managed or Shared Services as well as other related teams within SAP. Coach team members to deliver with confidence and help overcome barriers to success.

  • Leadership communication: Position yourself as a leader, leveraging existing communication channels and platforms. Build trust beyond your team to inspire and embrace the overall operations vision by showcasing your team’s contributions.

  • Team Management: Adhere to and execute management tasks in line with SAP’s leadership principles and HR guidelines. Recruit, develop, and retain talent. Build, motivate, and inspire the team. Set clear objectives and coach for collaborative success.

  • General Management: Proactively manage risks, budgets, and resources. Foster compliance in line with SAP guidelines.

Centers of Expertise exist on global and regional level. They closely collaborate and interlock as one unit, working towards common goals. Global Centers of Expertise will directly engage with global leaders and Business Partners on process decisions and adoption. Regional Centers of Expertise will collaborate closely with regional and local Business Partners.

As Business Process Manager you are required to know all core processes to understand the implications of your team’s efforts and decisions you may make. As a first level manager, you may actively own individual processes or practices, therefore assuming increased responsibility to deliver the respective innovation and execution. Carefully manage the appropriate balance between process expertise and leadership, allowing you to delegate responsibilities while motivating towards greater outcomes.

As a people manager, you are responsible for supporting the success of not only your direct reports, but the success of all employees within the larger team you are a part by helping to identify development opportunities and supporting team members to achieve their goals. You are expected to know about the members of your extended team and share insights with your peer managers. Look for opportunities to coach and recognize employees directly and provide just-in-time feedback so that employees can reflect on your input immediately.

The success of a Center of Expertise and therefore for your role is based on three core priorities:

  • Process adoption & related business impact or improvements (i.e. profitability, deal conversion…)

  • Simplification - process relevance across multiple business dimensions for greater alignment/efficiency

  • Incubation success & turnover of improvements in collaboration with Business Partners

In addition, leadership roles are expected to look beyond their current scope and team, sharing their expertise, coach for success, and lead by example.

Experience & Language Requirements

  • 12 years of professional working experience; Experience working within operations-related, managerial or sales functions is an advantage;

  • English: Level 3: Fluent (Able to fluently understand and communicate verbally and in writing)


  • University Degree

Professional Training & Certification

  • Coaching, Management, or similar certification can be of value
