Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, as an Instrumentation & Electrical Automation Engineer, are to:

• Support project Process Control Technology (PCT) teams consisting of engineering and design personnel; • Support planning and all phases of capital investment projects including concept development, estimating, basic engineering, detailed engineering and design, procurement, and construction and start-up of new or modified production facilities; • Follow Bayer and/or customer specific practices, standards, guidelines, and procedures for preparation of estimates, scopes, specifications, design, and other deliverables; • Support all I&E / PCT aspects of engineering to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability are met; • Interface with other engineering disciplines/departments, customers and vendors/suppliers to ensure successful development and execution of projects; • Support the preparation, review and approval of I&E / PCT specifications, drawings and other documentation; assist in compiling construction packages; • Provide field support, and participate in check out, commissioning and start up; • Comment on existing or create new process I&E / PCT procedures, standards and practices to stay current with technology and implement improved methods; • Provide routine technical support with limited responsibility and accountability.

• BS with 4+ years’ OR MS with 0-2 years’ OR PhD with 0 years’ experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or industrial facilities in I&E / PCT design and engineering or equivalent experience; • Degree from an accredited university in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical engineering with strong interest in PCT systems; • Knowledge of cGMP and GAMP5 standards and guidelines; • Knowledge of I&E / PCT documentation, validation, quality assurance, etc. ; • Knowledge of process control strategies and systems; • Knowledge of safety systems and industrial control networks; • Strong computer hardware and software skills; • Knowledge of relevant national and international standards in the area of process control, low voltage electrical, and instrumentation; • Knowledge of project control skills including project planning, scheduling, cost control, and contract development; • Demonstrated experience in providing field support and participating in check out, commissioning, qualification, and start-up of process controls installations; • Systematic approach to problem definition and solution development; • Ability to work as a member of cross-functional teams and to participate in multiple projects simultaneously; • Good organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at different levels of management, engineering and design, and with internal customers (e.g. engineering, maintenance, operations) and suppliers of PCT material and services; • Good verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain cooperation from team members involved with engineering, design, check out, commissioning and start-up. Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical and scope documents required for project execution; • Willingness and ability to travel 20-40% of time when job assignment dictates; • Willingness and ability to work additional hours when job assignment dictates; • Willing to pursue advanced education (i.e. Master’s Degree); other certifications, and training when job assignment dictates.


• Has passed the EIT exams; • Professional registration and/or certification as appropriate; • MS, Engineering; • Knowledge in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS); • Knowledge of Siemens Building Automation Systems (BAS); • Knowledge of Rockwell PLC hardware and software.
