PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
SAP’s ground-breaking in-memory computing engine is being developed in several locations around the globe. Among others critical core components are being developed in Berlin. With this new in-memory engine SAP SE offers a powerful foundation for use with existing SAP products as well as for developing new applications on device, in the cloud and on premise.
Brand new technology covering Main-Memory, Multi-Core Processing and Data Management are building the foundation for efficient in-memory computing thus enabling real-time analysis in combination with online transactional processing of business data.
Within our team, we practice a trust-based working model and follow the approach of Agile Software Development using e.g. Scrum. If you need to work flexibly from another location or at another time you can do so given your manager’s agreement.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
As developer within the HANA Platform Core team in Berlin you will be responsible for design, test, implementation, analysis, continuous improvements, documentation, and maintenance of the backup and recovery component of the in-memory data management engine
The backup and recovery team provides the functionality of log and data backups in either a single host or in a scale out cluster and assures the recoverability of the complete HANA database with all its services on all hosts. This functionality is business critical, must be rock solid, easy to use and as optimized for high performance as possible with the given hardware.
Your focus will be on contributing to a highly robust and scalable architecture for providing backup and recovery methods in the in-memory data management engine.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong analytical skills, ability to structure complex problems, and to do conceptual work
Excellent C programming skills
Very good communication and presentation skills in both German and English
Strong team player
University degree in computer science or related areas preferably in backup and recovery and/or database specific topics with excellent marks
Principles in the area of Storage Systems, Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network-Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Virtualization and 3rd party backup tools is advantageous
Background in DBMS implementation aspects is a plus
Academic experience in leveraging multi core architectures
Experience in implementing robust and performance optimized server software
