Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Genomics Operations Manager in Boston, Massachusetts
Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Manage performance of, and perform as needed, targated enrichment, genome and transcriptome library preparation and sequencing analyses using Illumina HiSeq and MiSeq platforms. 2.Manage peformance of copy number variation (CNV) analyses using Illumina SNP Chip/iScan and Agilent Technologies aCGH/SureScanner platforms. 3.Manage genomics analyses projects and timelines for OGI investigators by utilizing genomics services, meeting deadlines, and consistently delivering data meeting or exceeding accepted quality control criteria. 4.Manage sample acquisition, storage and analyses for the Genetic Diagnostic Testing Service, which operates within the Genomics Core. This includes performance of panel-based genetic diagnostic testing in a CLIA-certified setting. 5.Perform all necessary procedures for analysis of genomic DNA from patient or other research samples supporting multiple research projects. This will include the application and troubleshooting of DNA and RNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) primer design and amplification, electrophoresis, targeted enrichment, microarray analysis, and general molecular biology and biochemistry procedures. Experience with automated sample preparation systems preferred. 6.Continue to identify novel and evolving technologies and recommend the adoption of appropriate new methods and technologies to meet the mission of the OGI; implement novel technologies and develop standard operating procedures. 7.Supervise operation of genomic analysis equipment, including the development of standard operating procedures that can be reproducibly applied to diagnostic and research samples producing consistent results. Arrange for routine maintenance and repairs. 8.Work closely with OGI Genomics Core staff to coordinate genomic projects and ensure the laboratory is running efficiently and accurately. 9.Assist with supervsion and training of genomics technical staff in the OGI. 10.Assist OGI Directors with development and administration of genomics core budget. 11.Work with Ophthalmology Research Administration to meet “best practices” for operational financial management of multiple grant, foundations and departmental funds supporting OGI research activities.
Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MS or PhD degree required with three to five years recent and directly relevant experience.
Next-generation sequencing experience mandatory.
Targeted enrichment experience mandatory.
SNP, aCGH and Sanger sequencing experience preferred.
