Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Professional Nurse maintains the standards of professional nursing practice, and demonstrates competence for patient care through the utilization of the nursing process. The process includes continuous assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient care and patient education. The Registered Nurse directs and guides ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of nursing practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assesses physical, psychological, social and cultural dimensions with consideration of developmental, chronological and maturational needs of patients and incorporates findings into individualized care plans utilizing nursing assessment and planning and updates plan daily based upon continuing assessment of outcomes; documents progress in narrative note. 2. Acts as an advocate for the patient and family as needed and assesses need for patient and family education upon admission and throughout hospitalization with sensitivity to patient’s and family’s knowledge and experience with the patient’s specific care and needs. 3. Creates discharge plans for patients and families and includes realistic learning objectives and self-care instructions. Coordinates continuing care when necessary. Documents plans in narrative note. May include referral forms. 4. May have LPNs and Nursing Assistants assigned and assumes responsibility and accountability for assignees. 5. Provides accurate and verbal reports to on-coming shift and gathers report information prior to start of shift. 6. Responds to codes/emergencies in an appropriate manner and administers life support measures in accordance with established protocols/procedures. 7. Routinely analyzes the preoperative process and the ability to achieve the 48-hour compliance goal. 8. May participate in direct patient care based on staffing needs and with attention to patient acuity. 9. Demonstrates proficiency in the monitoring and management of intravenous therapy and administers IV nursing care according to established procedure on those patients who have intravenous medications or infusions

Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in Massachusetts. A minimum of 2 years of medical/surgical Nursing experience is preferred. Related experience required for advanced clinical and specialty areas. Demonstrates leadership activities; able to work under stressful situation; and possesses well developed verbal and written communication skills. Membership is a professional nursing organization desired. CPR certification is required for Emergency Room Personnel ACLS/PALS Certification Preferred
