Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary RESEARCH FELLOW in Boston, Massachusetts

Description The Schepens Eye Research Institute/Mass Eye and Ear, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Lashkari’s laboratory. This talented individual will participate in translational research focused on development of models and therapies for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR). This individual will take a lead in continuing our work on role of receptor signaling pathways and development of novel disease­-specific animal models. As some of our translational research projects are in collaboration with industry scientists the qualified candidate will be expected to interact with pharmaceutical company personnel.

Requirements Qualified individuals will have a PhD or MD/PhD degree, a strong publication record and excellent written and oral skills. Prior background in vision research is NOT required. We will train you! Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology, gene cloning, protein chemistry, tissue culture and animal studies are required. A strong background in statistics would be a plus. There will be ample opportunity to advance an academic career though application for grants and interaction with industry. Highly motivated candidates who demonstrate the ability to produce publications in our lab will have the opportunity to apply for the position of Investigator (junior Harvard Medical School faculty), upon successful completion of this fellowship. RESEARCH AREAS: The position involves planning and performing experiments in: ­Signaling pathways in choroidal and retinal angiogenesis ­Inhibitors of downstream signaling pathways in choroidal neovascularization ­Novel animal models of dry AMD and DR ­Development and analysis of novel biomarkers in dry AMD and DR Interested candidates should submit a (1) cover letter describing their research background, interest and career goals; (2) their curriculum vitae, (3) three references with their contact information, and (4) provide samples of their best publications.
