Description Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Schepens Eye Research Institute at the Department of Ophthalmology in Harvard Medical School has an opening for a Post-doctoral Fellowship with Dr. Ula V. Jurkunas. The laboratory studies corneal endothelial cell biology with specific emphasis on oxidative stress, DNA damage/repair and mitochondrial dysfunction pathways as they pertain to the pathogenesis of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy. In addition, studies on estrogen metabolism in relation to oxidative stress are underway. The successful candidate will possess a PhD or MD/PhD and will be willing to spend 2 to 3 years in the laboratory with broad research interests in molecular and cell biology, cell culture, and study of basic science with medical ramifications. Specifically, experience in oxidative stress assays and experience with animal models is desired.

They must be able to work collaboratively and be interested in working with individuals from many different backgrounds including clinicians and basic scientists. Successful fellows will have opportunities to develop his/her own project, acquire new skills, participate in grant writing, and participate in seminars and other academic activities, including presenting at national conferences.
