A function within Citi’s Controller's arm of the Finance Organization, the unit is a "shared services function" responsible for the accounting and substantiation of the organizations balance sheet, as well as the associated financial reporting of the ledger balances, risk, and associated breaks.
An objective of the Controller's organization is to standardize and streamline the accounting function associated with the balance sheet into a single organization with a streamlined/optimized process, while maintaining control and GAAP compliance. The Buffalo Finance Substantiation team is a strategic component of the organization's vision, leveraging its Frontier–based reconciliation model and subject matter expertise in support of building a foundation for the Reconciliation "Utility".
This Finance Management and Project Management role is responsible for execution and oversight of critical initiatives within the Finance Substantiation team. The role will support and lead various projects within the team as it relates to financial reporting, leading/introduction of new financial tools and initiatives, and other small scale projects.
The position will include both project and finance function management, also accountable for managing others, providing coaching and feedback to a team, and executing successful implementations. The position has full responsibility and accountability for understanding process flows, risk analysis/mitigation, and ensuring controls are in compliance with all internal guidelines/requirements.
The role will function independently and guide others in the execution of daily responsibilities - applying independent judgment to achieve results for both themselves and their team along with appropriate and timely escalation of any risk in their account portfolio. Project types include but are not limited to system conversions, process migrations, business acquisitions/divestitures, financial reporting, and internal initiatives in support of improving efficiency/control.
The VP- lead accounting analyst will review the work of others, establish procedures for others, and will provide coaching and feedback to a team. The analyst should possess strong judgment and investigation skills, and will leverage these skills in managing balance sheet risk.
The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills and has operated in that capacity in a large financial institution. The candidate should have a strong understanding of finance and accounting operations as well as exercise strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal accounting controls, etc; candidate should be proactive and possess the ability to challenge existing processes and approaches and provide innovative suggestions that improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, internal controls, and/or customer service. Candidate must be able to perform in a high-profile, global initiative (Genesis), transforming Citi’s balance sheet in a time-sensitive environment.
The minimum requirements for this position are as follows:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. MBA preferred. Accounting concentration or minor desired. Finance, or other related field
CPA desired but not required
Strong accounting fundamentals/proficient in corporate accounting
6+ years relevant experience in finance/accounting/ in corporate banking or related industry
Proven Track record of change management and project implementation of large scale
Demonstrated successful accounting and finance controlled processes and implementations
Strong project management skills; documented successful implementations
3 + years management or team leadership experience
Ability to problem solve and function independently with minimal supervision
Ability to interact with managers and various disciplines (Finance, Technology, Operations)
Must adapt to dynamic environment and effectively handle change
Must be a "change agent" embracing continuous process improvement - Strong PC skills: MS Excel Required (Must exhibit working knowledge of formulas, links, pivot tables)
