About the Department:

This position will be within the InterdisciplinaryPharmacometrics Program (IPP) at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, a new initiative thatfocuses on modeling and simulation approaches that facilitate critical datadriven decision making throughout the various phases of drug development. Newparadigms for the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents arevery much reliant on quantitative relationships that define our understandingof disease biology, the natural history of disease progression, drug kineticsand dynamics and the impact of drug therapy on clinical outcomes. SystemsPharmacology Models and data that express these relationships are useful indecision making and the development of hierarchical models that extend fromsystems biology through disease progression are essential in projecting theclinical success of therapeutic candidates. Data driven hypothesis generationand model building requires access to a broad range of data, integration andanalysis in a timely manner. The IPP initiative reflects Sanofi’s investment inquantitative sciences as well as the necessity to develop stronginterdisciplinary teams with expertise in mathematics, pharmacology,statistics, engineering, bioinformatics and medicine to solve complexbiological problems.

Position Description:

This position is a unique opportunity blending strongscientific data management and analytics skills with computational backgroundto significantly impact development of innovative therapeutics. This would be ahighly visible role within the organization touching various functions alongthe drug development pipeline as well as working with external commercial andacademic partners. The position also offers significant potential to publishand present in the scientific and computational community, and be recognized asa thought leader in the field of data sciences. The incumbent will have a broadremit to develop data strategies, test and implement analytical solutions tosupport translational objectives in early clinical development programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developand maintain a strong working relationship with statisticians, modelers,pharmacometricians, translational scientists and IT partners bringing a deepunderstanding of the science behind the clinical programs.

  • Maintaina keen awareness of developments in data technologies, analytics, methods andsystems.

  • Developdata integration, management and analysis strategies aligned to Sanofi drugdevelopment priorities.

  • Be thego to person for data processing, analysis and analytics platform support.

  • Hands onimplementation of analytical solutions, data access and managementtechnologies.

  • Bethe thought leader, publish and presentinternally and externally on a regular basis on data solutions andapplications.



Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational training focused on data/computational sciences, statistics/mathematics, engineering with appropriate mix of experience. (i.e. Bachelors 10 yrs experienceor Masters 8 yrs or PhD 5 yrs. Or similar mix of aptitude for learning and scientific research);

  • Strongprogramming and scripting skills (at least 5 yrs of experience) in one or more(polyglot) of JAVA, C, C , Python, Perl, R, Matlab, SAS environments;

  • Goodcoding practices, documentation, examples of code acceptable;

  • Priorhands on experience in application development (web development, Javascript,PHP, HTML5, CSS), implementation of analytics on big data stacks (HDFS, Spark,NoSQL databases);

  • Priorhands on experience (with examples) with one or more business intelligencestacks, data visualization frameworks (Spotfire, Tableau, Microstrategy etc.)and integration with big data technologies etc;

  • Someexperience with systems integration, ETL technologies, systems and datamigration (in life sciences space will be preferred);

  • Familiaritywith machine learning/statistical methods (Regression techniques, inferencemethods, probability) and tools to implement various algorithms (Weka, Knime,R, Python libraries etc.), additional skills in signal/image processing wouldbe preferred;

  • Experiencewith automation, scripting, batch/cron jobs, writing shell/batch scripts;

  • A decentunderstanding of various life science data standards CDISC, OMOP, Mini Sentineland familiarity with popular databases (Gene Ontology, KEGG, Pathways etc.);

  • A goodunderstanding of life sciences lab technologies and data from genomics,proteomics, metabolomics and analysis methods specific to these data types.
