TheVA Hudson Valley HCS is seeking a Physiatrist/Pain*Specialistthat is*preferably board certified/eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has fellowship training in Pain Management.

The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is a multi-campus healthcare system located in Northern Westchester and Dutchess Counties with seven community-based clinics located in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, Westchester and Rockland counties, just north of New York City and New Jersey. The Hudson Valley region has been designated as a National Heritage Area and the area is rich in history, natural beauty, and culture. Among many attributes, it boasts the oldest wine producing area in the country, and the beautiful scenery has inspired many artists.

The clinical duties will require medical and interventional approaches to pain management. The selected physician will help build, expand, and manage the pain management program. The ability to perform interventional procedures and knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine is a plus. The physician will work with an interdisciplinary team including nurse, pharmacist, social worker and psychologist in caring for the veteran population. The selected physician may also be asked to provide outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation evaluations, EMGs, and other specialty clinics.

Administrative duties include chairing the Pain Management Committee, monitoring facility compliance with the Opiate Safety Initiative and education of patients and staff with regard to pain management. The selected physician shall be available to support the interdisciplinary Pain Management team, and participates in all activities pertinent to the rehabilitation service including activities pertaining to quality improvement and strategic planning.

The selected physician will provide patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to service excellence.

The selectee must be proficient in the use of computerized systems related to patient care. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

Salary:Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel (for physicians and dentists) in determining the salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

Physicians are covered under the Tort Claims Protection Act.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements*: *

Citizenship - Citizen of the United States.

Education - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

(a) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

(b) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

(c) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

(d) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

Residency or Comparable Experience - First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate’s acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:

(a) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or

(b) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.

Licensure and Registration - Current, full, unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Physical Requirements - Pre-Employment physical and drug screening required.

English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to perform the duties of this position.
