SC Department of Public Safety Nutritionist II-WIC-Northwoods in Charleston County, South Carolina

Under supervision of the Nutritionist III Supervisor or Site Supervisor, perform WIC certification, breastfeeding promotion and support, individual low risk nutrition education and health promotion, and group nutrition education. Deliver services to clients and families in clinics, schools, hospitals or office settings. Provide assistance and education to participants/families on contract and List I Special Formula. Provide technical assistance and consultation to staff as part of multidisciplinary team delivering care to clients. Provide WIC certifications including health history, anthropometric, immunization screening, hemoglobin testing, evaluation of risk status, prescription of food package, documentation and high risk referrals following program standards. Provide and document individual nutrition education and follow-up for low-risk participants. Plan, conduct and evaluate group nutrition education classes using the facilitated learning process. Document nutrition education contacts per program policy/procedures. Perform Hemoglobin (g) controls and screening per CLIA and Agency protocols. Provide assistance to families with infants on contract and List I formulas including education, dispensing, and monitoring as assigned. Refer participants on List II and metabolic formulas to the Registered Dietitian per WIC guidelines. Provide breastfeeding promotion and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women. Screen and refer pregnant and breastfeeding women and infants to the Breastfeeding Coordinator according to referral guidelines. Issue and Issue and monitor breast pumps and supplies. Provide consultation and technical assistance to other members of the health care team and community in areas related to normal nutrition, including health promotion and disease prevention. Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary WIC team in clinic/class scheduling, caseload monitoring and outreach. Work with other program staff and disciplines to enhance integration and quality of service. Update professional skills and knowledge to assure delivery of quality nutrition services. Participate in continuing education opportunities. Complete and maintain certifications required for the position. Participating in continuing education, WIC training sessions, region in-services, and agency required training to enhance job-related knowledge and skills. Complete and maintain Certified Lactation Consultant credential, if required for the job duties. Prepares and submits reports and documents as required. Minimum and Additional Requirements: B.S. or B.A. degree in Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences, Home Economics, Health Promotion or other approved nutrition or health-related degree. Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
