Associate DNA Analyst

This is a contingent position.

PAE is currently seeking Associate DNA Analysts based in Charlottesville, VA. May be required to travel OCONUS (as needed). Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Duties may be executed in a CONUS or OCONUS laboratory and include performing analyses of samples that have been collected

  • Define new methods to support expansion of laboratory capabilities and improve/solve existing method deficiencies

  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Review, evaluate, and analyze data from samples and provide database entry support

  • Collect potential DNA samples from materials using approved procedures designed to minimize the possibility of sample contamination

  • All samples shall be properly packaged, marked and stored in preparation for extraction

  • Generate STR DNA profiles from unknown and reference/elimination samples

  • Analyze and interpret data from analyses which typically consist of complex mixtures and low template level samples

  • Use photographic equipment to capture still images of each item and relevant key portions of the item, or other exhibits, to support further analysis, conclusions, and documentation

  • Annotate the file documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results

  • Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of files, reports, and data

  • Perform equipment/instrument maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment/instrumentation such as the following:

  • Real-Time PCR

  • Thermocyclers

  • Genetic analyzers

  • Robotic equipment

  • Ensure a proper chain of custody for all materials and samples is maintained

  • Maintain a clean laboratory and personal workspace environment, in accordance with laboratory procedures

  • Must possess, at a minimum, intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project and Outlook

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science (e.g., biology, biochemistry, microbiology, clinical laboratory sciences, genetics, microbial ecology, microbial genomics, molecular biology, or forensics) coupled with 5 years directly relatable experience

  • 2 years of experience working in the Intelligence Community (IC) environment

  • Proficiency working with analytical methodologies such as DNA extraction, Real-time PCR, PCR, genetic analysis using current genetic analyzers, data analysis using analysis software platforms Genemapper® ID-X or STRMix, DNA profile comparison, interpretation, and statistical analysis

  • Must be able to successfully pass all medical requirements for deployment, as needed

  • Must be able to successfully pass a skills assessment

  • Experience working in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis

  • Must be able to successfully pass a skills assessment.

  • Currently have an active DoD Secret security clearance

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Eligible for both US Tourist Passport and US Official Passport

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional certification such as American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) is desired

  • Previous experience as a DNA analyst in an accredited forensic laboratory

  • An active DoD security clearance – Top Secret w/ SCI eligibility or TS/SCI

  • Deployed experience in Analytical/Operational environment
