Continuous Improvement & EnterpriseOptimization Overview
Continuous Improvement & Enterprise Optimization (CIEO) focuses on how we can advance the quality and efficiency of what we do across our operations and around the world. The objective of the group is to provide thought leadership through business insights and advanced analytics that challenge the status-quo. We partner with variety of business units (e.g. Airport Operations, Technical Operations, Network Planning, Revenue Management, etc.) in order to create value through excellence in process improvement, change management, analytical modeling and research.
Interns will work with various business units along with Analyst/Sr. Analysts in the CIEO division using analytical, technical, and consulting skills complete value-added projects at United Airlines. Work may include measurement & analysis (time and motion studies), statistical data analysis, process improvement applying continuous improvement concepts (including process mapping), and the development and validation of operations models. Interns are also expected to gain an understanding of both United as a business and how it generates value for its customers.
Analyzing andgathering data of United’s various operations to make fact-based,data-driven recommendations
Using computer andtechnical skills, e.g. Excel and VBA, to create tools for use by otherdepartments
Utilizing simulationtechniques in SIMIO/ARENA to analyze & improvebusiness processes
Performing measurementand analysis (time and motion studies) in different environments:airports, maintenance, customer contact centers
Present compellingfindings to business divisions leading to material improvements
- Must be a currentundergraduate (Junior/Senior)/graduate student with a major in IndustrialEngineering, and have completed courses in basic industrial engineeringand statistics
Excellent analyticaland problem solving skills
Proficiency with Exceland other Microsoft Office products
Experience with SIMIO/ARENA,Minitab, Visual Basic (VBA), and other programming tools is preferred
Strong interpersonalskills with focus on teamwork
Intern duration is Jan - Jun 2017
Internship requires atleast a five month commitment
Position is based inChicago, IL (travel may be required, up to 50-60%)
Must be legallyauthorized to work in the United States for any employer withoutsponsorship
Successful completionof interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctualattendance is an essential function of the position
