Harris Associates L.P. Manager, Performance Analytics in Chicago, Illinois

You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and complete representations of the firm’s various performance and risk measurements and for monitoring the daily activities of performance calculations, analyses, and related reports that illustrate the firm’s performance returns and risk statistics for portfolios, strategy composites, and benchmarks. You will be the business product owner of the firm’s performance tools including: Eagle Investment Systems (Eagle PACE), FactSet Portfolio Analytics, CAPS, and Advent Axys Performance. You will serve as an analytical resource and interpret performance results for team members, portfolio management, client services and marketing. You will have the opportunity to interact frequently with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Trading Services, IT, Compliance, Legal, Accounting, Fund Operations, and Marketing. You will represent the department on various operating and IT project committees that meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all departmental processes to ensure consistency and accuracy; this includes performing detailed analytical and statistical reviews of investment performance data at the investment, manager, asset class, and portfolio levels

  • Serve as the business owner of the firm’s performance calculation software, Eagle, championing for the product in firm meetings

  • Regularly communicate with Eagle client service representatives and participate in meetings with executive staff

  • Liaise with various departments to monitor and oversee preparation and organization of data for client investment analysis reports (i.e. rate of return calculations, portfolio analytics computations, and portfolio risk analysis)

  • Interpret and evaluate portfolio performance; this includes identifying the key factors impacting performance and preparing written analysis to present the findings to portfolio managers and marketing

  • Ensure nightly Eagle and Axys data flows are successful and data is ready for use for next day’s trading operations; this includes monitoring emails after hours, communicating data load failures to the IT Service Desk and logging in to remediate errors

  • Manage and coordinate the accurate and timely distribution of client materials

  • Ensure the staff understands departmental procedures and processes.

  • Provide project management support for firm designated initiatives

  • Regularly review and provide feedback to staff members relative to their performance by ensuring processes, procedures, and deadlines are adhered to in efforts to ensure a high level of client service

  • Proactively pursue process improvement initiatives relating to the Performance Analytics processes, procedures, and systems

  • Maintain assigned strategy composites in compliance with GIPS standards and act as a firm resource for GIPS expertise

  • Participate in due diligence meetings as required



  • Strong working knowledge of functions within an investment advisory (and preferably mutual fund) organization

  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks while remaining flexible to new requests

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to oversee projects and efficiently delegate tasks in order to meet project deadlines

  • Knowledge of statistical concepts, techniques, and compliance procedures

  • Thorough knowledge of GIPS performance presentation standards

  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of various software applications including MS Office, particularly strong MS Excel skills and a working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
