The QI Coordinator will receive direction from the Director of QI in determining priorities for accomplishing assignments. Work is reviewed for overall effectiveness in meeting goals. The QI Coordinator functions within the Quality Improvement Section of the Office of the Medical Center Director and assists the Director of Quality Improvement in conducting aspects of the Medical Center's Quality Improvement Program. The incumbent demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The incumbent assists the Director of QI in implementing Medical Center-wide QI Program(s) and assists in conducting preparation and follow-up of external visits. S/he assists in providing Quality and Performance Improvement information to all services, programs, and team members in this Medical Center. Services provided are complex and widespread, including acute psychiatry, medical services/outpatient clinic/urgent care, long term care, substance abuse treatment, PTSD treatment, research and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

The incumbent exercises judgment in determining which guidelines are applicable to a set situation, including Medical Center Policies, The Joint Commission (TJC), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Long Term Care Institute (LTCI) and the Office of Inspector General (OIG). S/he monitor, analyze, trend and report on various performance monitors, such as departmental, VHA and external survey performance measures. The incumbent must remain organized and on task in management of coordinating work product through to completion. S/he may serve as the back-up coverage for other QI staff during leave time. S/he provides staff education on assigned indicators, measures, and monitors. The incumbent provides QI advice, guidance and training to individual team members as needed. S/he ensures policies are accurate and modified as needed according to standards/regulatory updates. The incumbent must possess a skillset for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. This position will mainly work with the Mental Health Service line.

Basic Requirements:1) U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.2) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia 3) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration AND degree equivalency documentation will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript.
