This position is located in the Food and Drug Administration, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Office of Food Additive Safety in College Park, MD.

- Plans, manages, organizes, and directs all the regulatory review operations, program segments, functions, and activities of the Division as carried out by subordinate supervisors and/or team leaders and a highly trained and skilled staff of Consumer Safety Officers, Chemists, Toxicologists and other scientists organized into formal subordinate organizations responsible for the regulatory review mission of the Division.
- Supervises a group of employees performing work at or above the GS-13 level.
- Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.
- Produces written products in the specialization or subject matter area of the position. Some reports and other written products are recognized as having a significant impact in the program area on a national or international level.
- Represents the Division/Center on task forces, working groups and teams while finding innovative, creative, and new ways of tackling tasks.
- Keeps abreast of precedent-setting issues and technological advancements within the regulated industry.

To qualify for the Supervisory Consumer Safety Officer, GS-0696-15 you MUST meet BOTH of the following:
A. Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in one or a combination of the following: biological sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, or related scientific fields that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety officer work. The 30 semester hours can include up to 8 semester hours in statistics, or course work that included the principles, theory, or practical application of computers or computer programming OR a combination of education and experience -- courses consisting of at least 30 semester hours in the fields of study described in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
B. Specialized Experience for the GS-15: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes managing a consumer safety program related to food; AND communicating with various levels of officials from other federal/state agencies; AND managing a professional team of multi-discipline staff and scientists.
