VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) is the second largest and most complex VA system in the nation, comprised of the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic and Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic. VANTHCS includes six Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) locations as well as an annex clinic located three miles from Dallas VAMC. A Fisher House is located on campus at Dallas VAMC. VANTHCS is an integrated health care system with approximately 5,000 employees and over 1,600 volunteers and clinical trainees. Through these four facilities and relationships with other agencies, VANTHCS offers health care services to approximately 500,000 veterans.
The recent added Plano VA Outpatient Clinic is expected to open in August 2016 and will offer primary care, mental health, telemedicine, laboratory, and x-ray services to approximately 6,000 veterans annually living within 15 miles of the clinic.

Applications are now being accepted for LVN vacancies in the Community Living Centers (CLC) units A & B, Dallas, TX. The following is a list of required skills and characteristics considered essential assignment attributes:
a. Completion of LVN degree from an NLN accredited or State approved school of nursing.
b. A minimum of one year of recent nursing experience is preferred, including experience with IV therapies, wound care and rehab patients.
c. Effective oral and written communication skills and tact in dealing with patients, families, and professional staff.
d. Demonstrates self-direction and flexibility in managing assignments and have the ability to function effectively as a team leader and team member and ability to delegate and supervised unlicensed assistive personnel.
e. Must be effective in providing educational instructions to patients and others.
f. Highly effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, families, all staff, and management at a professional level.
g. Must be proficient in the use of Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
Must have the physical capabilities to initiate crisis intervention measures and the ability and willingness to accomplish satisfactory training and performance in nursing care emergencies.
Work Schedule: Various shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

Must possess a current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical nurse or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. This is required in order to hold a position as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Federal Government
Must be a graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing that was approved by the appropriate Sate agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing (Accrediting Commission, NLNAC) at the time you completed the program.
Must be proficient in both spoken and written English. Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d), and 7407 (d).
Preferred Experience: Two years of recent nursing experience is preferred, including experience with wound care and rehab patients.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
GS-3: None beyond the basic requirements. LPNs at this grade level are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license (e.g., medication administration); however, completed work may require routine or detailed higher level review depending upon the complexity of the duties involved.
GS-4: Employees may be appointed at or advanced to GS-4 if they meet any of the criteria below: (a) Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; or (b) Graduation from an approved school (which may be waived as provided in paragraph 4 of Section C) and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; or (c) Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration.
GS-5: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
GS-6: Completion of at least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent , fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN. Technically proficient in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.

Physical Requirements: The work requires regular walking throughout the 10,000 sq. ft. Outpatient Clinic to facilitate patient care, meeting, training, and other administrative tasks as may be required. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking (8 Hours), standing (8 Hours), repeated stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, lifting & carrying (15-45 pounds) and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
