Position Description

The Lead Data Architect serves as the data architecture expert driving enterprise information and data architecture strategies and policies for a business segment's project portfolio. In collaboration with project teams, he/she develops data architecture for various IT systems and acts as the data architecture SME for the duration of the project.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design architectural frameworks for managing data and metadata within Ally systems, including:
  • logical & physical data design
  • data modeling
  • integration & synchronization of data across systems
  • data management tools
  • optimization of data storage & retrieval goals (business & technical)
  • data availability/usability/security
  • data & metadata catalogs
  • May be involved in resolving complex data related issues
  • May serve as a team lead by directing and overseeing the work of lower level staff
  • Will determine new methods and develop new procedures for accomplishing work
  • Expert knowledge data system platforms and database programming languages
  • Expert knowledge of data security management systems
  • Expert at resolving data related issues including complex data modeling challenges
  • Ability to make and decide upon Architecture tradeoffs and successfully decided and communicate system tradeoffs
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for design and deployment
  • Knowledge of standards applications in physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security
  • Ability to perform backups and database recovery
  • Ability to develop data requirements and configure database parameters accordingly
  • Is able to effectively relate his/her technical expertise to varying organizational needs; knows when and how the technical content can be legitimately tailored to fit different departments and customer needs.
  • Efficiently applies topical knowledge and expertise to make significant solutions for customer groups and the entire business. Recognizes the value of a multi-industry perspective and applies best practices to create innovative solutions
  • Develops unique strategies to promote the effectiveness of the workgroup
  • Ability to influence those with whom the incumbent has no direct supervisory authority

  • Information Systems, Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree and 5+ years of engineering experience or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience as an IT architect
  • Ability to develop enterprise guidelines and standards
  • Strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
  • Expert knowledge data system platforms and database programming languages
  • Expert knowledge of data security management policies/procedures and systems
  • Experience working with and developing design and requirements documents and artifacts
  • Expert at resolving data related issues including complex data modeling challenges
  • Strong working knowledge of SLDC processes and how to operate under structured project management, including the need for various environments, system maintenance, risk avoidance, etc.
  • Proven ability to work independently and provide proactive leadership in a complex environment with multiple teams made up of employee, contractor, and/or supplier resources
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to architectural needs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent technical problem solving skills
  • Ability to make and decide upon architecture tradeoffs and successfully decided and communicate system tradeoffs
