This position is located in the Office of Research and Development, National Homeland Security Research Center, Decontamination and Consequence Management Division, Durham, NC. This is an Internship position in the Pathways Program. This program provides students in high schools, colleges, trade schools, and other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work and explore Federal careers while completing their education. The Internship position must be related to the student's academic field of study or the student’s career interests. Except in special circumstances, those new to the federal government will be hired at the starting salary (step 1) of the applicable grade range listed above.


You will:

  • Independently perform highly specialized or complex data collection and analysis (such as atmospheric particle sampling, fluid dynamic measurement, aerosol physics analysis) from field (marshes, streams, or estuary);

  • Modify or adapt established protocols and procedures in response to test studies or findings in the area of fluids mechanics or aerosol science or atmospheric science;

  • Plan and justify resource management strategies and departures from established procedures in the area of fluids mechanics or aerosol science or atmospheric science;

  • Prepare and present scientific reports to diverse audiences.

Pathways Interns qualify for an initial appointment based on their educational achievements as described below:

To qualify for the Research GS-11 level, you need to have completed all requirements for a master’s or equivalent graduate degree.
