Event Manager, Antonin Scalia Law School

The George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School seeks an Event Manager, on the Arlington, Va., campus. This position is responsible for coordinating internal and external events hosted or cosponsored by the law school, including academic workshop and other law school functions. The Manager may also be responsible, on a case-by-case basis, for partnering on events hosted by law school centers, programs, or student organizations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: securing event space, coordinating catering, technology support, housekeeping, advertising (both internal and external), equipment rental and setup, processing related paperwork (sponsorship forms, invoices, reimbursement forms, etc.) and other logistical details.

The position requires identifying relevant information (including budget, audience, and event details), coordinating the necessary details, and keeping open lines of communication with appropriate individuals regarding all aspects of planning and execution. The incumbent is also expected to be the law school point of contact for other university offices or departments, external vendors, and others as necessary. The individual will be responsible for creating and implementing a tiered catering program to ensure that the appropriate level of service is provided for law school funded events.


  • Strong organizational skills, ability to respond to tasks with a sense of urgency and to manage multiple deadlines effectively is required; must be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented and accuracy driven;
  • Experience working in the hotel or meeting planning industry is required;
  • Experience working in a law school environment is preferred;
  • Ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy and tact is required; must have excellent communication skills, both spoken and written;
  • A valid driver’s license, ability to travel independently, and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends are required; and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Publisher; Eventbrite; and a familiarity with database software are required.

Education or Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of events management, planning, and experience is required; and
  • Demonstrated event planning and production experience is required, preferably in a law school setting.
