This position is located in the Indian Health Service, Wind River Service Unit, Billings Area IHS, Fort Washakie, WY. The purpose of this position is to maintain high quality pharmacy services to patients and patients' families. The incumbent reports to the Pharmacy Supervisor. The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. The IHS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: This position is being filled through Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority [DHA]. The Direct Hire Authority has been authorized by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and Part 337, Subpart B, Title 5 of the Code of Federal Regulations [5 CFR]. If filled utilizing DHA, the following is applicable: all applicants who meet the basic qualification requirements will be forwarded to the Selecting Official for consideration. Provide information on policies and procedures and/or information on use of drugs in the patient treatment plan. Provide advisory information to patients and the medical professionals at the facility.
Dispenses drugs, maintains controls and security of narcotics and other controlled substances.
Monitors drug therapy for interactions, adverse effects and therapeutic efficacy.
Provides consultation to Medical, Dental and Nursing staff.
Provides primary patient care where guidelines have been developed; exercises clinical judgment in management of chronic care patients.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Licensure: Except for research positions that do not entail patient care, all applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-7. Additional Requirements for Grades GS-9 and Above For GS-9: Successful completion of a 5-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, or 1 year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-7. For GS-11: Successful completion of a 6-year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree; 1 year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-9; or, for research positions, completion of all of the requirements for a master's or equivalent degree in a related scientific field. For GS-12: One year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least GS-11; or, for research positions, completion of all the requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related scientific field. To qualify based on specialized experience for GS-12 level, you must have one year of experience (equivalent to the GS-11) level that included duties such as: Compounding prescriptions, and formulating, preparing, bulk compounding, selecting, dispensing, and preserving drugs medicines, and chemicals. Advising on drug therapy and usage in a hospital, clinic or a facility in the pharmaceutical industry. Medical Requirements:

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
