Job Responsibilities/Department Description:

Downstream Bioprocess Development (part of Sanofi R&D) is responsible for development, scale-up, transfer and characterization of downstream processes for early and late stage clinical and commercial manufacturing of therapeutic proteins, hormones and antibodies. In addition, the department develops next-generation commercial processes, provides technical expertise and support to improve ongoing commercial manufacturing process performance, evaluates new technologies and develops platform technologies suitable for incorporation into commercial processes.

Job Responsibilities:

We are looking for candidates for the position of Senior Research Engineer.This individualshould be able to use scientific principles and professional practices to creatively and practically solve a wide range of problems, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental and regulatory compliance are maintained in the workplace. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing experiments and analytical procedures, interpreting results and recommending changes

  • Providing technical support for the design, development, scale-up, optimization, monitoring and/or operation of robust, cost effective and scalable processes for the production of new or existing products

  • Supporting tech transfer between groups or organizations

  • Reviewing processes and/or process data to recommend changes or additional experiments to improve process quality, productivity, recovery and overall efficiency

  • Training manufacturing staff on new processes and the use of equipment

  • Working both independently and part of a multi-disciplinary team


Basic Qualifications :

  • M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology or related field with 0–2 years of experience, or B.S. with 2–4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications :

  • An understanding of scientific and engineering principles and techniques used in the production of protein therapeutics

  • Technical knowledge of commercial downstream processes and scale-up

  • Ability to determine and develop approaches to complete milestones associated with specific projects, under general direction

  • Significant experience programming and running AKTA chromatography systems, automated filtration systems, and biochemical analysis of proteins using analytical techniques, including SDS-PAGE, HPLC, and spectrophotometry

  • Hands-on experience with bench-scale protein purification, including clarification, tangential flow filtration, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, and column chromatography

  • Experience with process scale-up and tech transfer

  • Self-motivated, organized, familiar with the relevant literature, attention to details, and enjoy scientific investigation and thinking

  • Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills
