Job Description:

The University of Florida is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Controller for Finance & Accounting. This position oversees and provides effective leadership and management for Auxiliary Accounting/Educational Business Activities. It provides financial oversight and guidance for University auxiliary operations; coordinates the Service Center Rate Review; prepares quarterly Auxiliary Enterprise Review Committee Meeting Reports; and provides financial reporting assistance to auxiliary personnel as required. The assistant controller also performs on-going risk assessment activities and monitors the adequacy of internal controls within auxiliaries/educational business activities. The position assists in coordinating internal and external audits as well.

  • Review processes and procedures to identify operational risks related to auxiliaries/educational business activities. Create and maintain a repository of risks, and work with management to prioritize and implement risk mitigation activities.

  • Perform on-going review of the processes and procedures related to auxiliary accounting to ensure effective and efficient operations. Develop and communicate reports that outline findings and recommendations for improvements.

  • Monitor and assess compliance with laws, policies, administrative rules, and other guidelines governing operations within auxiliaries/educational business activities. Develop and communicate reports that outline findings and recommendations for improvements.

  • Assist staff liaison in coordinating audit responses and follow-up on audit findings with internal and external auditors.

  • Coordinate the design of various reports and reconciliation training, including tools, tips, and tricks to improve training aids for departmental financial representatives.

Advertised Salary:

$70,000 - $85,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards, and internal controls.

  • Excellent communication skills are required as well as the ability to work with individuals at multiple levels.

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  • Must have the ability to understand various business processes and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
