Candler Farm Master Technologist I
The person employed in this job will assist with animal care and performance of testing at the Candler research site.
Caring for birds (feed, water, air)
Working with Scientists on tests
Assisting with vaccinations, bleeding, and necropsies of birds
Cleaning/disinfection of isolation units and buildings for tests
Reporting of daily observations of birds
Reporting any equipment failure
Maintaining work area clean and orderly
Proper use of all safety procedures
Associated documentation and detailed recordkeeping
Performs other duties as assigned.
May not own or have contact with other birds or poultry.\
Minimum of High School graduate or equivalent.
3-5 years’ experience working with animals preferred.
Must have a clean driving record.
Must pass a Federal background check.
· Computer skills.
· Must be conscientious, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work alone.
· Must realize the importance of non-contamination process and be prepared to adhere strictly to the procedures.
· Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
· Good communication skills.
· Excellent record keeping skills.
· Must not own poultry or pet birds and not reside in the same household with someone who does.
Ability to lift / push / pull, 70 lbs. consistently must be able to lift and roll a weight of 70 lbs.
Must be able to squat, bend, and stoop, as well as twisting and turning.
Must stand on feet for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity are important.
Must be able to work from a ladder.
Must be able to work a rotating on call schedule. Regular attendance is a must.
Must be able to work a rotating weekend schedule.
Experience with poultry preferred.
