Grand Junction Veteran Health Care System (GJVHCS) is the home of Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic and is a full service acute care facility with both inpatient and outpatient services. Grand Junction VA Healthcare System is seeking a hybrid position for Hospitalist/ER physician, but willing to consider as strictly hospitalist or as strictly ER (MOD – medical officer of the day) position. Position is open to board certified or board eligible Family Practice or Internal Medicine physicians. New Residency Graduates also considered.

A hospitalist physician at Grand Junction VHCS provides coverage for our acute care medical inpatient facility, including the Intensive Care Unit, our Emergency Department, and cross coverage for our nursing home, the Community Living Center. Our facility, although small, sees the full gamut of acute inpatient medicine care. Daily inpatient rounds, inpatient consultation from Surgery Department, and discharge responsibilities are components of the Hospitalist position. ER responsibilities include triage, evaluation, transfers to other facilities and if deemed appropriate, the ER physician does the admission to the inpatient ward. Grand Junction VA HCS serves Veterans living throughout the Grand Valley and a large surrounding geographic region.

An 80 hour per pay 14 day period is required. This is usually a combination of hospitalist rotations 8 or 10 hour shifts depending on the census, Monday through Sunday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or Medical Officer of the Day (MOD)/ER is a 12 hour shift which is Monday through Sunday, 7:30am to 7:30pm to make a total of 80 hours.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

  • Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
