If you are looking for an exciting career challenge in a beautiful Colorado town the Grand Junction VHCS and surrounding areas have a lot to offer. The growing city has 60,000 residents making it the largest city in western Colorado and sits at 4,593 feet above sea level. Grand Junction is located on the Western Slope of Colorado where the weather is known to be mild throughout the year due to the lower altitude. Other well-known activities in the area are camping, hunting, hiking, mountain and road biking, rock climbing, golfing, rafting, fishing, skiing, and the vast amount of orchards and wineries. Grand Junction is known for the fresh peaches and other produce available, which in turn produce weekly farmer's market. Grand Junction also hosts a minor league team of the Colorado Rockies. Colorado Mesa University, a campus of the University of Colorado is located in Grand Junction as well. The Grand Valley is a destination for several athletic events including marathons, triathlons and mountain bike races. The annual Winefest highlights the nearly 30 wineries that make their home in Palisade, Colorado, also part of the Grand Valley. Grand Junction Veteran Health Care System (GJVHCS) is the home of Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic and is a full service acute care facility with both inpatient and outpatient services. The facility maintains 24/7 acute care service including ICU and an emergency department.

- Patient examinations including new, follow-up and consultative per ENT clinics;
- Operative procedures also include surgical site marking, consent, daily rounds on inpatients, supervise pre-op and post-op orders as needed for Physician Assistants

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in all osteopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was grated, or.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG, if claimed by the applicant.
Licensure and Registration
(1) Physicians (Except Residents). Physicians must possess current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
(2) Residents. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
(3) Impaired Licensure. A physician who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 14 of this part.
(4) Waiver of Licensure. Licensure may be waived by the Under Secretary for Health or designee in Central Office for individuals in research, academic or administrative assignments involving no direct patient care responsibilities in accordance with current regulations.
d. Residency. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list publish for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
Physical Standards. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
