Our Community Integration Specialist Intern will provide community-based training to adults with developmental disabilities to prepare them for jobs in the community. Work closely with individuals to instruct, guide and support them as they move toward their vocational goals and greater independence. . Provide on-the-job training and job coaching for individuals with disabilities in the community.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES: 1. Under the supervision of the CIS gather information regarding individual skills, needs, and vocational interests through multiple discovery strategies like interviews, observation, and assessment tools.

  1. Assist with interpreting data in relation to the individual performance and Identify training objectives that address individual needs, build self-awareness and confidence, and support advancement toward community employment.

  2. Assist with implementation of community-based training in the areas of job-readiness, independent living, and social skills in collaboration with individuals with disabilities and their teams.

  3. Assist individuals in becoming as independent as possible in their volunteering positions using activity analysis and coaching techniques in collaboration with CIS.

  4. Maintain effective communication and cooperative, professional working relationships with individuals served and Goodwill staff.

  5. Complete assessment reports and record training progress through regular case notes.



REQUIREMENTS: Students who completed their third semester in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Desired length of internship: Minimum of 8 weeks - full time (32 to 40 hours a week).

  4. Maintain and promote a positive attitude toward individuals and their training programs.

  5. Ability to effective time management.

  6. Demonstrate active Listening. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
