UNCG Assistant Dean for Budget and Operations in Greensboro, North Carolina
The Assistant Dean for Budget and Operations serves as a principal deputy of the Dean for long-range budgetary and operations planning for the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA). The Assistant Dean is responsible for structuring and overseeing the management of a $15 million budget. The CVPA has four schools (Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre), produces more than 400 performances, exhibits, lectures and other events, and currently has operational management of six facilities (Music Building, Brown Theatre Buiding, Taylor Theatre Building, McIver Building, and Coleman Dance Building, and UNCG Auditorium). Working closely with the Dean and Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean will provide selected enrollment data and analysis in order to advise and inform decision making.
The Assistant Dean will help advise the Dean on financial matters and planning across the full spectrum of budget categories (OTP, TSR, Endowment, Sponsorships, Annual Funds, and Discretionary Funds) and levels (schools, divisions, areas, grants and projects). She/he will create selected financial reports as requested by the Dean and will formulate financial plans for the College based on assembled data and best practices. She/he will review and analyze budget requests from the schools, programs, projects, and faculty to make and track all allocations and will monitor staff and leadership adherence to mandated regulations and policies. She/he will be responsible for preparing the annual budget request and will assist the Dean and Associate Dean with other senior administration requests. The Assistant Dean will provide advice and guidance to the School Directors and Senior Staff on budget and operational matters as possible.
The Assistant Dean will help oversee and manage the College’s six facilities. She/he will serve as a project manager, in conjunction with CVPA staff members, in relevant planning and renovations, and will assist with facilities usage issues and purchasing specifications.
The Assistant Dean will develop strategic and logistical support for College-wide initiatives, events (400 plus) and special projects to include the Performing Arts Series and other such programs to ensure the proper management of vendor and artist contracts and agreements.
The Assistant Dean will oversee and advise on personnel budgets and compensation matters for 125-150 faculty, staff and administrators in CVPA. She/he will confer and liaise with directors of Payroll, Faculty Personnel Services, and Human Resources in major initiatives both departmental, college, and campus-wide.
The Assistant Dean will represent the CVPA in budget and operational matters by developing and maintaining appropriate liaisons with staff in other academic units, the Provost’s Office, Business Affairs, Enrollment Management, Institutional Research, and with all staff and offices of the CVPA.
Master’s Degree required with higher degree or special training beyond a Master’s taken into consideration, OR a Bachelor’s Degree with at least eight (8) years of progressively more responsible experience in higher education financial administration and planning; excellent analytic and problem-solving skills; excellent communication skills and strong ability to work with others in teams; experience working in a university administrative environment.
Familiarity with budget processes and policies of the University of North Carolina System; familiarity with Banner Finance and Banner HR reporting systems and experience working with the Arts.
