UNCG Department Head (Full or Associate Professor) in Greensboro, North Carolina

Position Summary

The Department of Interior Architecture (IARc) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for the position of Department Head. IARc is a community of scholars who embrace a wide variety of disciplines that inform the design theory and practice of the built environment, including interior design, architecture, product design, historic preservation, and other relevant specializations in the social sciences, arts, or humanities. With nine full-time faculty and an enrollment of 150 undergraduates and 15 graduate students, the department offers a CIDA accredited first professional (BFA) degree in Interior Architecture and a post-professional (MFA) degree in Interior Architecture.

The ideal candidate is an innovative and energetic leader who will make significant contributions to our studio-based undergraduate and graduate programs. We are looking for a collegial department head who can provide visionary leadership and direction to a dynamic department, guide shared governance and complex decision-making in an academic setting, and encourage across-disciplines work that promotes collaboration and community engagement. Department Head, 10-month appointment beginning August 1, 2017 Responsibilities inlcude:

  • Oversee and manage budget, facilities, personnel, curriculum, and accreditation
  • Stimulate and support departmental teaching, scholarship, and service
  • Promote departmental achievements and accomplishments
  • Represent the department in the college and university as well as professional organizations
  • Continue an active program of peer-reviewed scholarship or creative activity
  • Teach one course per semester in area of specialization

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in interior design or related field with demonstrated expertise in interiors

  • Academic experience in both undergraduate and graduate education
  • Previous administrative or professional leadership experience
  • Established experience in professional organization(s) preferred

    Preferred Qualifications
  • NCIDQ preferred
