Preference may be given to applicants who have at least six years of professional engineering experience gained as a licensed (P.E.) engineer.

DOTD Deputy Engineer Administrator
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus eight years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been at the supervisory level or above.
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required general experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required general experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required general experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.
Engineering experience gained prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
Directs and administers engineering programs so extensive and complex as to require staff and resources of sizeable magnitude.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Administrative direction from a higher level engineering administrator or an unclassified official.
Direct supervision over several, distinct organizational sections or entities.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
Differs from Engineer 8 DOTD by the responsibility for a major component of DOTD and by the magnitude of staff size and resources.
Differs from DOTD Chief Engineer Administrator by the absence of statutory responsibilities/authority.
Examples of Work
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Serves as the director of a major engineering division or district.
Confers, advises and negotiates with federal, state and local officials, private entities, members of the public and other elected/appointed officials on a variety of sensitive and controversial policy or funding issues.
Represents the department on various, highly-complex engineering issues as well as on highly publicized decisions or actions in which the media/members of the public are involved; participates in conferences with appointed DOTD officials, division directors, and other key staff to correlate and enhance administrative programs; serves on nationally recognized transportation engineering boards; presents testimony to State and federal legislative bodies.
Continually oversees the development of policies for the assigned division/district and coordinates such with other agency and federal funding officials to ensure all phases and elements of the division/districts functions are completed in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
Establishes goals, objectives, policies and procedures in order to facilitate achievement of desired results; schedules and prioritizes work activities in order to achieve results in a timely and efficient manner; establishes performance indicator criteria or benchmarks against which work efforts will be measured in order to gauge progress and evaluate results actually achieved.
