The VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of Western South Dakota, where America vacations. With primary campuses at Fort Meade and Hot Springs and numerous Community Based Outpatient Clinics, VA BHHCS provides primary and secondary medical and surgical care, along with Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program services, for Veterans from North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. VA Black Hills Health Care is part of the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23) - where we've been caring for America's Heroes for over 100 years.
The psychiatrist will provide outpatient care in the Mental Health Clinic to veterans with a variety of diagnoses. The incumbent will also work with a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide care to veterans participating in residential programs in the 100 bed Domiciliary. There will also be some consultation/liaison work with the adjacent hospital/nursing home/primary care clinic. On-call coverage for the entire VA Black Hills Health Care System is shared with full-time psychiatrists (6 others) and is generally by phone consultation with the ER/Urgent Care. Weekend rounds on the 10-bed inpatient psychiatric unit are included in the on-call rotation. These rounds may be done via telepsychiatry depending on where the psychiatrist chooses to live.
Work Schedule: Day tour with expectations of some extended hours.

Basic Requirements :
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with the Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who are board certified in Psychiatry.
