Job Overview:

The Geo-Technician is responsible for technical support (mapping & spatial data manipulation) of client oil & gas assets and assisting in execution of mandates and development of new business activities. Detailed responsibilities as follows:

Execution duties:

  • Technical surface and sub-surface mapping of oil and gas assets (isopachs, structure, well locations, production trends, heat maps, etc) including:

  • Professional slide generation using Power Point

  • Client ready maps for desk top discussions

  • Preparation of data room montages based on data supplied by client or public sourced

  • Download public data from sources such as IHS and or DI, quality check, manipulate and map

  • Construct fundamental maps such as tops and thickness from Petra

  • Construct field drilling development maps to scale

  • Assist in building Petra projects and conduct elemental mapping requests

Business Development duties:

  • Assist in constructing maps, cross sections, heat maps, etc.

  • Assist in building and maintaining basin study books, maps, etc.

  • Assist in maintaining strat sections, type logs, and other basic maps for basins as needed


  • Bachelor’s Degree or special industry training a must

  • 3 – 7 years’ experience working as Geo-Tech in the oil and gas industry

  • Technical oil and gas Geo-Tech experience (mapping of all relevant variables in the subsurface and ability to manipulate data for mapping)

  • Reasonable level of technical oil and gas geo-tech understanding and application

  • Ability to identify upside mapping improvements and data viewing optimization

  • Basic computer skills including, but not limited to: Petra, mapping software, Microsoft office products, data bases, Petra, ArcGis and other technical oil and gas software and technical oil and gas software

  • Reasonable level of discretion and professionalism dealing with confidential matters

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

  • Ability to work in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime as required

  • Organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to efficiently set priorities and meet tight deadlines in a quick environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
