The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is recruiting for fulltime psychiatrist for the Mental Health Service Line. The incumbents will focus on the assessment / evaluation and medication management of veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions, including, but not limited to post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and other related conditions; write prescriptions for medications, including controlled medications which require a DEA number; works with families of patients receiving psychiatric care; provide and document education and counseling of patients and patients' families in preventive care, medication treatments, and the use of prescribed medications; perform history and physical examinations; order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests; appropriately and timely complete medical records, including progress notes, consults, history and physicals, and discharge summaries; performs psychological counseling, crisis intervention, and group therapy within the scope of the clinician's training. Candidates must be able to work effectively and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team and approach mental health care with a focus on Recovery. The selectees should be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
Preferred board certified / board eligible (Current eligibility within two years) in psychiatry.
Work Schedule:Primarily 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday and on call on a rotating basis. Schedule flexible to meet the needs of the veteran population.

Licensure and Registration Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA.
Educational requirements - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
* Physical Requirements:*VA Directive and Handbook 5019, applicants must be able to perform the duties as a Physician (Psychiatrist). Light lifting (under 15lbs), light carrying (under 15lbs), use of fingers, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
