The Charge Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of the patients within his/her assigned departments; also, patient throughput; nursing assignments; service recovery within his/her assigned departments. He/she is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel. The Charge Nurse is responsible to the Asst. Director/Nursing Director for the delivery of quality patient care utilizing the nursing process. The quality of care given will be in keeping with the philosophy and objectives of the hospital and the department of Nursing. The Charge Nurse will maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice in order to meet the health care needs of patients, their families and the community.The Charge Nurse delegates and coordinates all nursing care provided to assigned patients. The Charge Nurse is responsible for meeting all standards associated with performance, nursing practice and nursing care.
The Charge Nurse is responsible to the Asst. Director/Director for the delivery of quality care ultilizing the nursing process. The Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse who, in collaboration with the Asst. Director/Director, coordinates all nursing care for patients on the assigned unit and coordinates daily operational activities on the assigned unit. He/she is responisible for direct supervision of staff members assigned to his/her primary shift. Assists with daily audits and department goals. Utilizes chain of command when needed. Utilizes basic physical and psychosocial assessment skills to identify actual clinical problems based on assessment of patient and unique age specific needs. Completes triage assessment/documentation per policy. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations. Administers medication/blood products in a safe manner while following hospital policy. Maintains clean/safe working environment. Plans, provides, and evaluates teaching based on individual needs. Includes medications, plan of care, tests, diagnosis, disease process, pain management, restraints, and discharge planning. Assists MD with procedures and treatment. Performs assessments and reports any changes to MD. Maintains certifications as required. The Charge Nurse will work to support and protect the rights of each patient served, treats each patient with dignity and care, and maintains patient confidentiality/privacy. Demonstrates commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient falls, medication safety, National Patient Safety Goals, critical value reporting, and administration of blood products. Provides appropriate patient/family education, per department and hospital policy and procedures. Accountable for own conduct: promotes good working relationships among staff and other disciplines. Fosters good public relations.
_Required Education:_ Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Level entry training may be a Diploma Program in Nursing, an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
_Preferred Education:_ BSN
_Required Experience:_ Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
_Preferred Experience:_ 3 years of Charge Nurse or Relief Charge Nurse experience.
_Required License/Certifications:_ Florida RN License American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider Cert., ACLS, and PALS
