Purpose & Objective of Position

The SAP Software Development Lab in La Crosse Wisconsin is looking for a highly motivated Intern to assist the Build, Tools & Services (BTS) Development Team in support of the Enterprise Information Management products. This individual would work with other developers creating systems and tools for software build automation, managing product builds, and performing Software Configuration Management (SCM) tasks. The successful candidate will be able to utilize their educational background in creative and innovative ways to maximize their effectiveness in contributing to the overall success of the team.

Expectations & Tasks

Responsibilities will include:

  • Development of automated software build systems and tools

  • Assist the development teams with C or Java development

  • Must be able to interact with various aspects of the software lifecycle, including requirements, design, test planning, construction and validation

  • Must be methodical, detail-oriented, have a thorough approach to problem solving, and a team-oriented work ethic

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment where researching, learning, and the ability to take initiative is emphasized

  • Must be able to review software technical specifications (e.g. software design, test plans, etc.)

Skills / Competencies

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • Experience and/or course work using a modern programming language (e.g. C or Java preferred)

  • Experience and/or course work with the Windows operating system

  • Experience and/or course work with Unix operating systems (Linux, AIX, or Solaris)

  • Experience and/or course work writing scripts (batch, Unix shell, Python, PERL, Ruby, etc.)

  • Experience and/or course work with relational databases (MS SQL, MySQL, SQLite)

  • Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)

  • Experience working in a team environment to complete projects and strong communication skills are required

Educational Requirements

  • Current enrollment in good standing in an undergraduate or Master’s degree program in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree program.

  • Completed a minimum of two undergraduate classes demonstrating programming knowledge/skills and the 2 nd year of their degree program.


  • Requires candidates to currently be enrolled in an undergraduate, Masters, MBA or PhD degree program in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
